Windows XP - Install Windows XP Operating System Part 3


Welcome to this Part 3 Windows XP tutorial on how to install Microsoft Windows XP operating systems. This is the final stages of windows xp installation and where the windows preferences are set.

When your computer restarts it will show the screen as pictured here.

Windows XP is installed now, it just needs some information to finish up and set some preferences.

On this screen in the lower right hand corner you will see a green 'Next' button. Click the next button.

The first of the settings is for the automatic updates.

The screen is asking whether you want to recieve updates automatically or not.

It is advisable to click the 'Help protect my PC by turning on Automatic updates'. To do this click the circle next to the green shield.

Click the 'Next' button at the bottom right of the screen.

The next screen will try to setup your computer for the internet. If you are connected to a network then this screen may appear slightly different.

If you are prompted with this screen click the 'Skip' button in the lower right of the screen.

You will now see an activation window asking is you want to activate Windows XP now or in a few days.

You can activate Windows XP via the telephone or via the internet (much easier) so unless you are sure the computer is connected to the internet, click the 'No, remind me every few days' option.

Once you have made your selection click the 'Next' button in the bottom right.

Nearly there! The last setting screen wants to know what users will use the computer. You can add users later too although you will need to specify at least one user here.

Enter a user name in the 'Your Name' box which can be letters and numbers but not the same name as the computer name.

If you want to enter a 2nd and 3rd user then do so.

Once you have typed the users you want to add, click the 'Next' button in the lower right.

You will see the Thank You page now.

And that's the main installation really, not difficult. Microsoft walk you through most of the settings in installation.

In the lower right corner click the 'Finish' button. Windows XP will start.

You will now most likely be prompted with a black screen with a message telling you that Microsoft Windows XP needs to adjust your screen resolution. Click the 'OK' button

If Windows XP can adjust your resolution successfully another box as pictured left will prompt you to continue. Click the 'Ok' button once more.

You should now be shown with the default Microsoft Windows XP Desktop.
