Windows XP - Check for Hard Drive Space

Welcome to this Windows XP tutorial on how to check your computer hard drive for free and available space. You can check your hard drive to see if you have enough space for installing programs or games, storing your MP3s or pictures.

Windows XP - Check for Hard Drive Space

With Windows XP loaded to the desktop you should see the desktop icons.

With the mouse double click the My Computer icon.

The My Computer window will open.

You will see a list of all the drives that are available under My Computer.

You can check the space of any drive although it is usually the C:\ drive that requires attention more as this drive is the one that is constantly being used.

With your mouse right click on the 'c:\' and from the menu that appears left click the 'Properties' option at the bottom.

You will see the properties window of 'c:'.

You will see a pie chart showing how much used space there is and how much free space is available.

You can also see in numbers how many Gigabytes are free or used.

The more pink the better!! After you have finished checking your har drive space click the 'Ok' button.
