Windows XP - Change Time and Date Settings

Welcome to this Windows XP tutorial on how to adjust the time and date settings. You might want to adjust the time or date so you know the time and date!!

Windows XP - Change Time and Date Settings

With Windows XP loaded to the desktop look to the lower right hand corner and you will see the time displayed.

With your mouse double click the time. This will open the Date and Time properties box.

You will see three tabs along the top. Click the Date & Time tab.

On the Date and Time tab you will see the options for changin the Month (see circled example) the year which is 2010 in our example, and the day in a diary style.

You can use your mouse to alter any of these settings. Click the date you want from the diary format, use the drop down box to select the month and the small up and down arrows to the right of the year.

You will also notice the clock on the right hand side. Below the clock is a digital time. This is where you change the time.

You change the time by double clicking the hour or minutes number. The two digits will be highlighted in blue which indicates they are ready to be changed.

Type the new number on your keyboard or click the up and down arrows to the right of the digital time to adjust the numbers.

Click on the Time Zone tab.

You will see a drop down box which shows the current time zone setting and a picture of a flat world. Below this is a tick box which asks 'Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes'.

To change your time zone click the drop down box which will present you with a list of available time zones. Choose your country from the list by clicking once with your mouse.

Your selection of country should now be the chosen time zone.

If this is all you want to adjust click the 'Ok' button to close the Date and Time propertiy box.

Click the final tab 'Internet Time'.

The internet time tab allows you to synchronize your clock with a clock on the internet. You will see a check box 'Automatically synchronize with an internet time server'. This is ticked by default.

You can click the 'Update Now' button to synchronize your computer time.

Once you have made the changes click the 'Ok' button to close the Date and Time properties box.
