Windows 7 - Create a new user

Welcome to this Windows 7 tutorial for creating a new user. You may want to create a new user to keep documents seperate and secure from others usin the same computer.

Windows 7 - Create a new user

Start Menu button displays the recently used programs and the start menu which shows available programs. Access to the control panel can be made from here.

With the Windows 7 screen loaded to the desktop you will see a blue bar along the bottom and a blank screen usually blue which is the desktop and normally has a recycle bin icon on it.

From the lower left side of the screen click the circle button which is effectively the new Start Menu button. This will produce a vertical menu as pictured left.

At the top of the menu you will see a small picture above the logged on user name. With your mouse click this small picture.

You will see the box as on the left which shows a list of options and the existing users which in this case is 'User'.

From the menu under 'Make Changes to Your User Account' click the option 'Manage Another Account'.

This will launch the next window

You will see the user account dialog box appear. You should see all the created users including the currently logged on user account and normally 'Guest'. Below this box are some hyperlinks and in particular one labelled 'Create a New Account'.

Click the link 'Create a New Account'. The new account window will display.

In the box for 'New Account Name' you can type your chosen username which can be anything you want although it is common to use your own name.

You will also see an option for either 'Standard User' or 'Administrator' with an explanation of each type of account. Once you have decided and selected the applicable radio button click the 'Create Account' button.

You will be brought back to the main user accounts screen that we saw before.

You can see that the new user is added alongside the other two existing accounts and that the type is a 'Standard User'.

In the top right click the red box with the white X in it. This closes the user accounts box and returns you to the Windows 7 desktop
