Windows 7 - Change / Add Desktop Icons Windows 7

Welcome to this Windows 7 tutorial on how to change or add the desktop icons. You may want to change the desktop icons to add 'Computer' icon, 'Documents' icon and 'Network Places' icon.

With Windows 7 loaded and logged on you will see the Windows 7 desktop. Using your mouse 'Right' click on the desktop and a menu will appear as pictured. This menu has several options on it. From the menu left click the 'Personalize' option.

The personalization window will now appear and you will see four main options at the top left corner of the window. You will see one of the personalization options is to 'Change Desktop Icons'. Click that hyperlink.

The desktop icon settings window will now appear as pictured and give you some options for desktop icons.

You will see the options as the following:

Computer - This gives a shortcut on the desktop to the computer drives such as C: drive and CD-rom drive
User's Files- This is a link to the document structure on Windows 7 which shows, Pictures, Video, Music and Documents
Network - If you want a shortcut on the desktop to enable you to search your network for other computers
Recycle Bin - If you want the recycle bin to be shown
Control Panel - This allows a shortcut to the system management tools or control panel as it is known

You can tick the little box to select the icon to be displayed on the desktop. You will see from our selection we have ticked Computer, User Files and Recycle Bin.

Once you have chosen which icons you want to display, click the 'Ok' button at the bottom of the window.

You can close the personisation window and return back to the Windows 7 desktop
